Profhilo contains pharmaceutical grade high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid bonded together. 'Skinboosters' is a term used to refer to a range of products that usually contain hyaluronic acid of various concentrations, weight, purity and grade, often also with other ingredients - they claim to hydrate the skin, boosting its lustre and vibrancy. It is, in my opinion, a misleading term as often they cause inflammation rather than 'boost' skin health and the quality (and scientific basis) varies wildly! Profhilo to its credit is know to produce Collagen 1, 3 and some 4 and 7 collagen but Sunekos produces more (which is why I use Sunekos). Sunekos is discussed in another section of the site.

Profhilo contains pharmaceutical grade hyaluronic acid which is a product naturally in your skin and, unlike in fillers, it is not cross-linked so it disperses through the skin more readily.

Treatment can be a little uncomfortable but local anaesthetic is not required.

Skinboosters is a broad term and agents marketed as boosters vary hugely - many do not have pharmaceutical grade hyaluronic acid and so safety cannot be assured.

As these treatments are injectable, bleeding and bruising are the commonest side effects, and some people will have mild swelling afterwards. After profhilo in particular you will have little lumps at the injection sites but these will settle quickly.

With Profhilo in particular you may have some slightly tender lumps at the site of injection - these can sometimes be more obvious the next day, but settle within a few hours to a few days.

The standard protocol is for a second profhilo treatment, and skinbooster protocols will vary depending on the product being used and baseline skin state.

Generally after around 6 months a further boosting treatment is advisable.
